Water Vessels made in American Stoneware, Terracotta and American Sculpture Cay with Matte White and Black Glaze
Photographer: Cory Rice
This collection of ceramic water vessels reinterprets ancient forms while pushing the boundaries of function and tradition. Rooted in historical utility, water vessels have long been designed for practical use—pouring, filling, and emptying with ease. Yet, within this collection, two vessels defy this expectation: they cannot be fully emptied. Their existence challenges the fundamental purpose of their predecessors, embodying a new paradigm where form transcends function.

These vessels could not have existed in the past; they emerge now, in a contemporary world evolved enough to accept objects that serve no practical use—objects that exist simply because they can. In this way, they are inherently queer, rejecting rigid definitions of purpose and instead embracing a state of being. They reflect an eternal wholeness, a completeness that cannot be diminished or undone, much like the human soul.

Through texture, form, and material, these vessel speak to the indestructible force of life—the same energy that moves cosmic bodies, shifts the tides, and pulses through all existence. These vessels are not merely containers; they are a symbol of continuity, of an essence that remains, existing in defiance of expectation and in celebration of life itself.
