Carved Collection

This ceramic collection of hand-built, carved side tables that can be reversed as planters reimagines the dialogue between tradition and nature. Each piece is constructed from clay slabs and then meticulously carved, a process inspired by Armenian khachkars—stone monuments and grave stones that merge geometry and spirituality through their intricate patterns. While khachkars embody the precision and order of religious symbolism, these works turn toward the organic and fluid.

The carvings trace the shapes of rivers, farm plots, clouds, and mountain topographies—forms drawn from childhood memory. These flowing patterns invite the hand and the eye to wander. The shapes embody the rhythm of nature rather than the rigidity of sacred structure.

In this body of work, carving becomes an act of reverence not for iconography, but for life itself—the quiet holiness found in the contours of the earth. The reversibility of the pieces, which can serve as planters or side tables, mirrors the fluid balance between function and sculpture.
